Dr. Schug gained his interest in hearing during his undergraduate studies in communication sciences and disorders at Arkansas State University in Jonesboro, AR. He went on to earn his doctorate in audiology at the University of Memphis in Memphis, TN. During his doctoral studies, Dr. Schug was involved with advocacy efforts for people with hearing loss at both the local and national levels through his leadership roles in the National Student Speech-Language and Hearing Association (NSSLHA) and the Student Academy of Audiology (SAA). He served on the national executive council for NSSLHA, and was involved in community outreach efforts to provide hearing screenings to the Memphis community and raise awareness of noise-induced hearing loss due to loud noise exposure.
Dr. Schug received advanced training in the treatment and diagnosis of hearing and balance disorders during his fellowship at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX and the Memphis Ear, Nose, and Throat Group clinic in Memphis, TN.
His specialties include: evaluation and rehabilitation of hearing loss in children and adults; vestibular/balance evaluation and rehabilitation; hearing aid selection, fitting, and repair; and electrophysiological testing of the auditory system.
In his personal life, Dr. Schug is a musician and a former member of the Memphis Symphony Chorus, having performed works such as Orff’s Carmina Burana and Mahler’s 2nd Symphony with the Memphis Symphony Orchestra.
