General Surgery
The General Surgery department of North Florida Surgeons evaluates and treats a full range of complex surgery problems involving all regions of the body. No matter what the need, our surgeons collaborate with each other and work with your referring physicians with the goal of giving each patient comprehensive, seamless care.

General Surgery services include benign and cancerous conditions of the abdomen (gallbladder, liver, pancreas, spleen, adrenal glands) and gastrointestinal tract (esophagus, stomach, small intestine, appendix, colon, rectum, anus), skin and soft tissue (melanoma, cysts, lipomas), and breast. For common operations like a hernia operation, you couldn’t be in better hands, as well. Many of our general surgeons use a minimally invasive approach for certain procedures (see Laparoscopic Surgery).

Laparoscopic Surgery
Often called minimally invasive surgery (MIS), band-aid surgery or keyhole surgery, laparoscopic surgery is an innovative surgical technique in which abdominal operations are performed through small incisions, often less than a centimeter long. Laparoscopic surgery gets its name through the use of a laparoscope, which is a small video camera attached to a fiber optic cable system. The camera on the end of the laparoscope is placed into the abdomen and guides the operation, which is the same as it is when larger incisions are used, just through smaller incisions.

Laparoscopic surgery can often treat most gastrointestinal tract and abdominal conditions, as well as hernias. Examples of conditions that may be amenable to treatment include gallbladder removal (cholecystectomy), bariatric or weight loss surgery, hiatal hernia repair and colorectal surgery. Laparoscopic surgery is done by many of our general surgeons (see General Surgery).

There are a number of advantages to laparoscopic surgery including reduced pain, less chance for complications and a shorter recovery time. You’ll also love that there’s no large scar after your surgery. Your surgeon will discuss with you whether or not you may be a candidate for laparoscopy or if you will need a traditional open incision.

Hand Surgery
Orthopedics involves the muscles, bones and joints. Hand surgeons at North Florida Surgeons excel at diagnosis, preservation and restoration to the form and function of the hand, wrist and forearm and more.
