A second generation surgeon, Dr. Zeal has grown up with the local community. His father, Dr. Arnold Zeal, was a prominent neurosurgeon in the Jacksonville area for 40 years.
Dr. Zeal graduated from Mandarin High School and earned his Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences and Sports Medicine from the University of North Florida. After 5 years working with and supporting local area High School and Collegiate Athletics, he attended Medical School at Nova Southeastern University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Fort Lauderdale.
After completing his Internship at Virginia Tech University, Lewis-Gale Montgomery Hospital, Dr. Zeal was assigned as a Flight Surgeon at Moody Air Force Base. For 3 years, he served as Medical Director for Combat Search And Rescue, training and supporting Pararescue Medics. He deployed to Afghanistan, served on Civil Search and Rescue Missions in the North Atlantic, and cared for Airmen and their families. He also developed injury prevention and rehabilitation programs, and continues as an instructor for Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) classes for active duty military physicians and residents. For his service, Dr. Zeal was awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal for Meritorious Service.
After completing his active duty assignment, Dr. Zeal completed his General Surgery training at Largo Medical Center in Clearwater, FL, encompassing a wide variety of General Surgery procedures, including extensive training with minimally invasive and robotic surgery, and serving as a key member of the liver and kidney transplant teams.
Dr. Zeal likes to develop good relationships with his patients, and performs a wide variety of traditional and minimally invasive laparoscopic and robotic surgical procedures including breast cancer, colon cancer, hernia repair, gastrointestinal surgery, and gallbladder disease. He currently serves as a lecturer for General Surgery Residency program with Westside and Northwest Regional Hospitals in Ft. Lauderdale, and has been invited to serve as a clinical instructor for the forthcoming Medical School at Jacksonville University.
In his free time, he enjoys playing and listening to music, travel, movies, time with his dog and overcoming frustration with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
