William Markowski, MD, is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon at Bluewater Orthopedics in Crestview, Niceville, and Destin, Florida. Dr. Markowski specializes in total joint replacement of the knee, hip and shoulder. He performs the direct anterior hip replacement procedure. Other areas of interest include knee and shoulder arthroscopy, hand surgery, fracture care and sports medicine injuries.
Dr. Markowski received his Bachelor of Science in pre-medicine at Penn State University. He attended medical school at Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, where he also achieved membership in the Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) Medical Honor Society.
He began his General Surgery internship year at Abington Memorial Hospital in Abington, PA, and then proceeded to continue his Orthopedic Surgery residency at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Pennsylvania. Dr. Markowski completed his training in total joint replacement at the Rothman Institute in Philadelphia.
Dr. Markowski moved to the Florida Panhandle in 1993 to serve four years of active duty for the United States Air Force. He left the Air Force in 1997 and joined Dr. Fox at Bluewater Orthopedics. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, current president of the Caduceus Society, and a board member of the Sacred Heart Hospital on the Emerald Coast. He is affiliated with The Destin Surgery Center, Sacred Heart Hospital on the Emerald Coast, Twin Cities Hospital and North Okaloosa Medical Center.
When he is not working, Dr. Markowski enjoys spending time with his wife in addition to golfing, working out at the gym, and working in the yard. He is an active member at Christ Our Redeemer Parish in Niceville. Dr. Markowski has enjoyed four weeklong backpacking adventures to the bottom of the Grand Canyon. His favorite sports teams are the Penn State Nittany Lions and the Philadelphia Eagles.
