Dr. Paauw earned his medical degree at Michigan State University College of Human Medicine, completed a transitional year internship at Spectrum Health Hospital, and finished his residency at the Kresge Eye Institute of Wayne State University. His commitment to advancing the field is reflected in his research, including his contribution to “Glaucoma Surgery Shifts Among Medicare Beneficiaries After 2022 Reimbursement Changes,” published in the Journal of Glaucoma and presented at the American Academy of Ophthalmology.

Dr. Paauw’s path into eye care was inspired by his brother’s passion for ophthalmology and solidified during a service trip to Haiti, where he saw firsthand how eye surgery can transform a patient’s life. He remains dedicated to serving others through ophthalmology, both locally and globally.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Paauw enjoys the outdoors and time with his family, including hiking, mountain biking, and fishing. Above all, his approach to care is guided by a belief in building lasting relationships and investing in the long-term well-being of every patient.
