Thomas R. Austgen, MD, FACS

Dr. Thomas R. Austgen, a graduate of the University of Notre Dame (’83), attended medical school at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. He completed residencies at the University of Florida College of Medicine in Gainesville, Florida as both as Basic Surgery Resident and Chief Resident of Surgery. Dr. Austgen also completed a Fellowship in Surgical Metabolism Laboratories at the University of Florida.

With nearly three decades of surgical experience, Dr. Austgen joined the U.S. Army Medical Reserve Corp as a Major in 1992 and served his country through 2004. He loves the diversity of being a general surgeon and the opportunity to participate in a meaningful and important aspect of his patients’ lives. When he’s not in the operating room, Dr. Austgen enjoys spending time with his family, fishing, rooting for the University of Notre Dame and hosting barbecues.
